Shenzhen's Shuibei area — a place without mineral deposits of its own — is home to more than 9,000 gold and jewelry enterprises and nearly 70,000 practitioners, with a wholesale trade valued at roughly half of the national total. For more than four decades, Shuibei has carried on ancient craftsmanship with dedication, broken through barriers with efficiency, and gathered the industry through innovation — honoring tradition without clinging to it, and pursuing excellence in every new piece.

On view at the Chinese Traditional Culture Museum in Beijing, the exhibition Refining Gold, Curating Excellence: Shenzhen Shuibei Gold & Jewelry Art Exhibition speaks to the process at the heart of the craft.
